Basic warranty & commacare

Coverage under the standard hardware warranty and the extended commacare benefit.

Basic hardware warranty

Hardware in the comma shop comes with a 1 year limited warranty against defects. If you have a device that was not purchased from the comma shop, the 1 year warranty does transfer, but you must provide the original order number and email address associated with the device. We cannot provide this information for you.

Open and repair the comma four at your own risk. comma is not responsible for damages that may occur while repairing devices.

Get warranty help

First check comma four common issues to see if your issue is common. If the problem continues, open a hardware support ticket and include:

  • Your order and device details
  • A clear description of the problem
  • A route recorded while running stock openpilot where the issue occurs
  • Relevant photos or video and the troubleshooting steps you have tried

The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs, duties, and customs fees to return a device for both 30-day returns and warranty returns. comma covers the costs of sending a repair or replacement device, which will be valued at $1 (the buyer is always responsible for all taxes and duties).

commacare

commacare extends your comma four's warranty for up to an additional year beyond the standard one-year warranty, giving you two years of total coverage.

We've made commacare simple and straightforward:

  • commacare is included automatically with your comma prime ($24/mo) or prime lite ($14/mo) subscription.
  • You must start your prime subscription within the first 30 days of receiving your comma four to be eligible for commacare.
  • If you cancel your prime subscription, your commacare warranty ends immediately and cannot be resumed. The standard warranty terms will continue to apply for any remaining time in the first year.
  • commacare provides the same coverage as the standard one-year warranty. It does not cover theft, loss, or accidental damage.
